I prepared another part of GoPro Studio tutorial helping you to edit your home video step-by-step. Today I would like to show you how to add a screen with a title (text) before the video starts or after its end. This is an optional step of video editing process, just do it only if desired.
You might have seen videos which started by some kind of intro. It might be just a simple screen with the title of the video, the name of creators etc. Similarly, you might observe multiple subtitles or thank you page at the end of the video – for example giving credits to actors, authors of music or other creators participated in the video. Maybe you want also add more info about you for example name of your business, blog website, phone number etc. All these things might be in the intro and outro screens in your home video.
I create and add these screens usually after I finish the whole video – all cuts and video / sound editing in Step 2. Let’s see how to do it step by step.
Add Simple Screen to the Timeline
Go to the tab Step 2 (EDIT) at the top of the middle section of GoPro Studio. At first click on “TITLE” button in the left column (1.) as shown in the picture below.
Then drag the title by mouse from the left column to the timeline in front of all videos (2.). It must be placed in the line which originally says “DRAG VIDEO HERE”! This might be a little bit confusing because there is also line “DRAG TITLE HERE” and you might think about placing your title there. But this would create just subtitles over your first video cut (we don’t want this right now) and NOT the introduction screen with text appearing BEFORE actual video starts.
Time of Appearance
How many seconds do you want the title screen to be visible? Drag the end mark on the right side (3. in the picture above) to the appropriate time.
Set Properties of Text
Type the desired text of your video title in the field in right column of GoPro Studio (4. in the picture above).
Then you can change several properties of this text in the right column as well. At first look at the presets down there where you will find various predefined fonts, colors, backgrounds etc. Is there anything you like right away? Just one click and it is all set!
In case you don’t like any of those presets you can set all properties manually right above presets:
- fill color
- stroke – set thickness of contour around the letters and its color
- backdrop – set color of the screen background
- opacity – set transparency of the text
- baseline – set spacing between the lines (in case of multiple lines)
- kerning – set spacing between the letters
- parallax (3D) – adjust the closeness or farness of the text in 3D space
- fade in / fade out – how many seconds does it take to appear / disappear gradually
Tip: when I create introduction screen I usually set fade in to 1-2 seconds and for outro screen I set fade out to 1-2 seconds.
Change Position of Title
The last step is to move text of the title to the desired position. You must do this on the video screen in the middle section of GoPro Studio. Just drag the title by left mouse button anywhere you want.
You might want to repeat the whole procedure and create other screens with text and place it in the timeline to the desired places.
But what if you want to add a screen with a picture, for example, your business logo or photo of your family? I am already preparing another GoPro Studio tutorial which will cover this topic.
